Sister Peace: Isola Dovarese Marks the Final Stage of a Journey of Fraternity

Path of Fellowship

The village welcomed the conclusion of a journey that began in Assisi, turning the arrival of the Torch of Peace into a meaningful moment of shared participation and collective reflection.

The first edition of "Sister Peace – Municipalities United for Peace" came to a close in Isola Dovarese, an initiative created to promote the values of peace, dialogue and fraternity through a symbolic journey connecting communities and territories. The pilgrimage began on 10 June in Assisi, where the Torch of Peace was lit at the Basilica of Saint Francis. It then passed through Riccione, Ferrara and Curtatone, before reaching its final destination on Sunday in Piazza Matteotti, at the heart of the historic Gonzaga village. The arrival of the torch was warmly welcomed by the local community. Residents, local associations, the four historic Contrade and public authorities took part in the closing ceremony, which culminated in the lighting of the Peace Lamp and a performance dedicated to Saint Francis. The event transformed the symbolic value of the journey into a genuine opportunity for encounter, dialogue and shared participation. Promoted by the Municipality of Isola Dovarese as part of the Villages of Culture and Wellbeing project, the initiative demonstrated how even a small historic village can become a powerful ambassador for a universal message, using culture, hospitality and community engagement to build meaningful connections between people and places.
