Cross the Ponte Vecchio in Isola Dovarese and, within just a few steps, you find yourself immersed in Oglio Sud Regional Park, where nature sets the pace of life. Stretching across the provinces of Cremona and Mantua along the southern course of the Oglio River, the park protects one of Lombardy's richest and best-preserved river ecosystems.

Here the river flows gently through the plain, winding between grassy embankments and creating meanders and oxbow lakes that support an extraordinary diversity of wildlife. Reed beds and riparian woodlands provide a haven for birdlife, including grey herons, kingfishers, little egrets and mallards, while roe deer, foxes and badgers are frequent sightings along the riverbanks. The park's wetlands form a rich mosaic of habitats where amphibians, reptiles and countless invertebrates thrive in harmony with the surrounding ecosystem.

Along the river embankments, where silence is broken only by birdsong and the gentle sound of flowing water, a network of scenic trails invites visitors to explore on foot or by bicycle. Isola Dovarese is crossed by the Oglio Greenway, a long-distance cycling route that follows the river for more than 280 kilometres, linking historic villages, nature reserves and panoramic landscapes through quiet country roads and dedicated cycle paths. From the village, several additional cycling routes branch out across the Cremonese countryside, offering itineraries for every level and weaving between riverside paths, historic farmsteads and cultivated fields.

Beyond the protected area, the landscape remains just as captivating. Shaped over centuries through the careful relationship between people and nature, former marshlands have become one of the Po Valley's most fertile agricultural landscapes. Family-run farms stand alongside innovative sustainable producers, preserving a rural heritage rooted in local supply chains and seasonal produce. Between the peaceful countryside of Isola Dovarese and Torre de' Picenardi, and the protected riverbanks of Oglio Sud Regional Park, time seems to slow down, inviting visitors to discover the territory at a gentler pace.
